About the Search

FRSD Superintendent Gary Carpenter has announced his retirement at the end of the 2026-27 academic school year. During his time in Fern Ridge, Mr. Carpenter has served as a teacher at both the elementary and middle school level, as well as an administrator at FRMS, VES, and EHS. He has served as the Superintendent since August 2016. 

The FRSD Board of Directors has launched their search for the next superintendent. Hiring a Superintendent is one of the most important jobs of local school boards, and the FRSD board is ready for the task. There will be opportunities for community and staff input in the months ahead. 

The Board has selected Human Capital Enterprises to facilitate a comprehensive recruitment and selection process with the goal of hiring the next superintendent to assume duties on July 1, 2027. 

This page will serve as the central hub for search updates, timelines, and opportunities for community engagement as we work to select the next district leader.

You're invited to share your input through this online survey. The survey is published in English and Spanish and should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.  The survey closes on October 14, 2026.

The Board believes it's very important to hear the voices of families, staff, and district stakeholders , and your input will be critical in the Board’s development of Fern Ridge School District’s Next Superintendent Criteria.
