Safet Routes to Schools (SRTS) Planning Grant

Does your student walk, or bike to school in Elmira?  With planning assistance from ODOT, Lane County and FRSD, we are working on a Safet Routes to Schools Plan for the Elmira Schools (EES, FRMS and EHS) to improve conditions for students and families who walk or bike to school.  

The County has received a planning grant on behalf of FRSD, from ODOT,  to work together and create a SRTS Plan that identifies street improvements in Elmira near our schools.  Planners from Alta Planning + Design, an active transportation consulting firm, are guiding the planning process. 

In the coming weeks, the project team will identify and prioritize safety needs within a mile of the each school in Elmira.  Then, the team will identify SRTS construction, education, and engagement recommendations and complete the SRTS Plan.  This will also include a project team visit to Elmira and a walk audit to observe student arrival and dismissal at EES, FRMS and EHS. 

There are multiple ways to participate, including participating in the walk audit on October 2nd, visiting the informational table that will be at the EHS homecoming game that same night, or by sharing your feedback using an interactive online map.
